Welcome to the only true fern site.

Here you can learn all there is to know on most fern species. How much water they need, whether you can plant them in your garden and whether they are evergreen, etc.

The fern: one of the first earthlings

The fern was one of the first plants on our earth. Coal beds have revealed fossil fern remains of some 450 million years old! You can find ferns all over the world, from North to South and from East to West. That means it certainly is not true that ferns need a tropical climate to survive. On the contrary, there even are many species that are hardy in the severe Scandinavian winters.

Ferns can be subdivided into three groups: Tropical ferns , Subtropical ferns and Hardy ferns.
